Game-based learning implies using gaming principles and applying them to learning settings to engage learners with educational resources and activities. Game elements can include: badges, rubrics, customised grading scales, competition, etc.
Educators can easily create interactive quizzes, short-answer, jumbled-sentence, crossword, matching/ordering, gap-filling activities, etc. and include one or more of these elements. Socrative, for example, also includes the “space race” tool that allows for including the competition element while learners answer a quiz. Moreover, these activities can be integrated in LMSs and can be stand-alone activities or be integrated with other resources to create a learning unit.
