Creating online collaborative spaces

Area

Level

Online collaborative spaces are digital environments where learners can develop their individual and collective learning. The design of these spaces should begin with a dialogue between all stakeholders, so that their collaboration needs are fully met.

Educators can choose to use a LMS as online collaborative space, based on the materials and activities that are made available, as well as the use of the discussion forum to support asynchronous communication and the chat synchronous communication. Usually, they can personalise it  and integrate other collaboration tools that learners may feel more comfortable with for video-conferencing, file-sharing, reviewing, collaborative writing, etc. Examples that can be considered are: Padlet and Google drive – for file-sharing, reviewing, collaborative writing; Perusal – for reading or examining and discussing documents; Zoom – for video conferencing; etc.
