Embedding content into digital environment

Area

Level

Embedding is different from linking resources, given that the former implies placing the resource directly in a page not allowing it to exist or be accesses outside that environment. When a resource is embedded into a LMS, learners can view, read or interact with the resource without downloading it or having to go to a different webpage.

For instance, in Moodle, Kaltura is the tool that educators can use to create, publish and distribute multimedia. When the editing area within any LMSs is enabled, educators can select the Kaltura button and embed a media resource. For videos, they have to make sure that the video has captions or to upload a transcript to meet accessibility requirements.

Educators can also choose to enter an embed link (<>). For example, for Google images they can:

  1. Open Google Photos;
  2. Locate the image they wish to embed;
  3. Click the image to open it;
  4. Find the ‘share’ icon in the upper right hand side of the window;
  5. Click the ‘create link’ button;
  6. Copy the link and paste it to whichever location they wish.
