Creating the content that can be presented in different ways (for example simpler layout) without losing information or structure (W3C, n.d.).
Tips
- Ensure that information and relationships that are implied by visual or auditory formatting are preserved when the presentation format changes.
- For example, the presentation format changes when the content is read by a screen reader or when a user style sheet is substituted for the style sheet provided by the author.
- When the sequence in which content is presented affects its meaning, a correct reading sequence can be programmatically determined.
- It is important that instructions provided for understanding and operating content do not rely solely on sensory characteristics of components such as shape, colour, size, visual location, orientation, or sound.
- Content does not restrict its view and operation to a single display orientation, such as portrait or landscape, unless a specific display orientation is essential.
