Checking students’ identity online for exams and assignments can be done in various ways. The strategies are different for small and large groups, where the educator cannot know every student personally.
Follow institutional policies. Secondly, apply least possible control. (See above Cheating prevention)
Examples:
- Asking students to turn on their cameras and keep it on during the activity.
- Asking students to show their ID for the camera. For not sharing personal data, this should be done in a separate session before the actual online exam. Students are only then allowed to enter the actual online exam platform or activity session.
- Use of technology for verifying identity (e.g. Proctorio)
