Educational data mining

Area

Level

Educational data mining refers to the area of scientific inquiry focused on data that come from educational settings to discover useful information to better understand the learning process and the settings in which it occurs. It can be used, for instance, to classify and foresee the learners’ performance and dropouts as well as the educators’ performance.

Educators can use, for instance, MoodleMiner (a Moodle plugin) to perform basic data mining analysis, such as grouping learners by interaction levels, or to predict dropout-prone students.
