A blog can be understood as an online journal, where learners can quickly and easily post their thoughts and interact with other participants. As the posts can be multimodal, integrating written text, image, video and/or audio, it offers learners the opportunity to develop their creativity and digital competence in their academic work.
Blogs can be used for summative and formative assessment to record and/or reflect on individual or group progress in a project. The learners’ entries can be read and commented on by external stakeholders (practitioners or experts in the field). Besides providing a record of the learners’ development over time, it can also help them to develop their communication and language competences and to create and manage their online identity.
