Peer assessment is an assessment method in which students actively participate and evaluate the submissions of their peers (possibly their own). If all participants work on the same task, the whole process is comparable and at the end the participants can generate or receive constructive feedback.
The assessment process is carried out according to predefined criteria and an objective procedure is conducive.
Advantages:
- Participants take a close look at their own work and the performance of their colleagues.
- The participants understand the assessment criteria better.
- Participants learn to formulate and accept critical feedback.
- It enables the participants to learn better by recognising the weaknesses of their peers
- The participants train their judgement and responsibility.
- There is a peer assessment activity (workshop) in Moodle. You define the assessment sheets and you can choose from four different formats.
- Students can share written work, videos, presentations or other assignments for mutual feedback. Providing feedback expectations or a rubric is helpful.
